What began as an experiment with a handful of carefully arranged eggshells eventually evolved into a deeper investigation into the notions of responsibility, fragility, and the process of aging as they relate to myself and to the most important person in my life -- my mother. Embodied in these pictures are my concerns, hopes, and curiosities. Using common fruits and vegetables, the photographs are a mix of portraits, both self and found, with which I explore the interaction of the human body and these perishable foods. The flesh-like qualities of the fruit skins and the finite nature of their life cycle are of primary consideration. Reminders is an introspective look at this new world I have created in the absence of the people who raised me, and the new terrain my existing relationships have taken in the passing time.
